Take up cross-country skiing! Great cross-training and it actually makes you excited when it snows! I'm doing a happy dance for the 5 inches we just got! Wow, massive overuse of exclamation points!
I started training for my first marathon in the summer of 2004. I didn't expect it to change me. But it did.
First it was a marathon. Next came the Goofy Challenge. Then there were a couple of century rides. I competed in an iron-distance triathlon in last September. It's always something.
But I am not your typical marathon runner/ironman/cyclist nor do I want to be. Training and nutrition are important to me. I don't obsess over either.
My raceday objective is to 1)have fun, 2)finish the race and 3)worry about my time.
